I have added new entries to one of my libraries. What should I do before upgrading or reinstalling?

On a reinstallation or upgrade of DFMA software, files included in the install set will replace those with the same filename. This includes the user editable database files in DFMA called libraries. See the FAQ What are libraries in DFMA software?

You are given the opportunity during the installation process to save the existing libraries to a Backup folder in the Library folder. These backed up libraries still have the default filenames. Another way to save your libraries is to rename them before installation/reinstallation.

Once you have completed the software installation, open the window of the library you want to work with (View menu.)

  1. Using File-Open in the Library window, navigate to the library which has the entries you have added.
  2. If necessary, the software will translate your library file, making it compatible in the new release.
  3. To merge your entries with the another library, use copy and paste.
  4. If needed, you can run two instances of a DFMA library at once. To reduce the memory load during this step, you can run two library windows only during this procedure. (From the Windows Start menu, choose Programs->DFMA by default, and click the library icon to start the library.)
  5. You may have to supply additional data to your library entries after merging your entries with those from a new release.
  6. If you rename this merged library, set it as the default library in the Librarian dialog. (Tools menu)
  7. If you need to reinstall a default library, you can do a custom install from the DFMA installation CD. After choosing the custom install at the Selection screen, deselect all modules in the application you are reinstalling except Libraries. You cannot choose to reinstall a single library.
