When I import a DFM part into DFA, why is the tooling investment sometimes different from that in the DFM Concurrent Costing analysis?

With version 9.2 of Design for Assembly, the manufacturing data is grouped in a single response box, and consists of four responses:

  • Piece part cost (the cost of any manufacturing tooling is not included)
  • Item cost (all costs for manufacturing or acquiring the part)
  • Tooling investment (the tooling cost per part as determined in DFM Concurrent Costing but applied to DFA's life volume)
  • Part weight

The tooling investment in DFA will differ from that in DFM when the life volumes of the 2 analyses differ, assuming that a tooling cost is a part of the DFM estimate.
