I’d like to send the Executive summary report via email to a colleague who does not have the DFA software. How can I do that?

We recommend converting reports to PDF (portable document format), which then can be forwarded via email or made accessible from a web page. This type of file can be read using Adobe’s Acrobat Reader, a free viewing program available over the internet at Adobe’s website (www.adobe.com.) Your colleague can then read the report on screen, or print it. To generate the report as a PDF file, print preview the report and then select Export from the preview's File menu. Save the report as a PDF file by selecting PDF Portable Document Format from the Save as type dropdown. This method works for all reports in all DFMA software, including Design for Assembly and DFM Concurrent Costing.

Some users have asked about exporting reports or screens to Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel and Power Point. There are several methods of extracting DFMA data in recognized formats.

  • You can set a view in DFA’s Product Worksheet to show the indented structure and the data columns you need. Then you can export (File->Export) that window as a .txt or .csv file, which can be opened in Excel.
  • Capture a program graph or graph on a report by using the Alt-Print Screen keyboard command to place the image in the clipboard. If you then paste it into a Power Point slide window, you can crop and resize it appropriately.
  • Use DFA's export feature to save graphs and reports as image files. Several graphic formats are available. Choose Export from the Graphs menu on the Graph window; or choose Export from the File menu on the Print Preview window, to open a save dialog.
